This morning I had 1 cup of fresh organic juice made of 6 beet sets of leaves, 1 small root and some celery leaves. Drunk it fast on empty stomach. Nausea 5 min later. Vomitting 10 minutes later. Stomach gurgling 1 hour later. I have been juicing times per month, several times beats included, with no symptoms other than coloured stools and urine.
I think that the quantity was too much this time. Perhaps soil bacteria did the trick since I only rinsed with water. Drunked a cup of milk since it felt like poisoning symptoms and feel much better 2 hours later. Wow the side effects are crazy… same here, I had a boiled beet type salad, about 2 hours later, bright red diarrhea… I went 4 times about 10 minutes apart… I hope this will stop soon….
But I have eaten lots of beets in the past, in large quantities. Why is this happening to me now? However five hours later I did get the sense of urgency and barely made it to the bathroom.
TMI , but I did mix it with an apple and Kale spinach mix and pineapples and strawberries. All together was powerful. I also Google the benefits of beets and read that it affects everyone differently.
All night I had several bowel movements. All looked normal. About 30 hours after the first drink, I got very loose stool and purple. Did not finish the second bottle of beet juice. The next morning, I am still having purple, loose stool. As for nausea, I had some when I first drank the juice. After reading this testimony, I see that my reaction was rather mild. Should have listened to the warnings and started slow, but I do think this in the long run is going to help me detox and heal.
I have a fatty liver. I juiced 72 oz of beets, with cucumber, spinach, apple, orange, lemon, and drank approx 48 oz the first two days, then 24 oz the next two days, never had any issues other than red pee and poop, other wise I feel awesome!! I wish I heard of this before I tried beet juice. First it felt like my blood pressure went up. Then I got week and had to lay down. I vomited and am now laying down feeling ill with a massive headache.

No more beets. The only thing that is making me feel slightly better right now is having read this post and knowing now why I feel like I have swallowed rat poison! Best of all I am on a 9 hour car journey! It was advertised as cleansing and good for weight-loss. The reasons why are now clear.
Thanks for enlightening me. That will be my last encounter with the beet monster. You are not alone! I tried juicing beets, since they taste terrible.
I drank just one glass of beet juice every couple days for about 2 weeks in addition to my normal diet. Mild diarrhea for the whole time, I was starting to get worried like WTF is going here!? Who would have suspected the humble beet! I have tried it a few times since, to confirm the results. Had the juice at 5 PM. It was like having the flu. Sweats, nausea. Throwing up. I thought I was relatively healthy.
It was so bad I thought I was dying and dehydrating. Ripped, and I mean ripped through me in less than minutes-….. And it was not good. Glad I was at home because… Ya, no.
